What you should know about
our Art
Our general approach in designing a commission is to begin by considering two parameters. The first one being that the architecture of the building or site must be respected. The second is how the users of the particular facility will be affected by the work. Often designs develop from an elaboration of a particular architectural statement which is found elsewhere in the site such as an overall form, a particular detail, a floor plan or elevation. In addition to these factors, we also try to develop a pleasing (and proper) color palette; bring in movement and energy (or maybe develop something more calm); work with architectural textures; consider the degrees of transparency of the glass that we select; pay close attention to the location of the sun throughout the day and seasonally as well; suggest lighting schemes for interior nighttime lighting so the window can be viewed is as much glory as possible from the outside at night. We usually do not try to compete with, but rather integrate into the architectural statement rather than look like something that was purchased as an afterthought. And, when all the windows of a particular site are being considered for a project, how can we make each window an individual part of an overall PLAN. Ofter, by themselves, these are hard requirements to meet, but when all taken together, you might be able to appreciate the work of a stained glass designer.
